Day 1: SF to Taipei to Bangkok

[ Sally typing ]

Holy cow, we’ve been up for days, prepping, packing, flying, then hooding all over Bangkok. The flights were pretty easy. We were able to store our bikes at the airport until tomorrow when we fly to Phuket for the cycling portion of this adventure. Out on foot today, we checked out some outdoor markets near Siam Square. An affable young guy named Ed approached us and spent the next 20 minutes as our personal concierge, giving directions, making recommendations, chatting us up, and even translating our order to a nearby food vendor! Thai people are as friendly as they say. Prepped for scams and tomfoolery of all sorts, Tommy & I kept waiting for “the pitch” but turns out Ed was just a nice guy! On a tip from Ed, we found a goodsuit shop and Tommy was measured for a fetching suit. Tomorrow, the tailors will bring the rough draft of the suit by our hotel room for a preliminary fitting.
